This mosquito is known as a vector of West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalomyelitis among other dangrous disease. The species' native range is increasing due to the growing extensity of the feeding area and disease transmission of this species. They lay their eggs in the form of an egg raft in a marsh or swamp habitat and lay around 100 eggs, which generally can hatch after as early as 7 days or as long as 16 days .
